Exploring blockchains has been a blast for me in the journey of integrating them into and growing the universal faucet. I get to read a little about them see how they handle cryptography, read their documentation and then apply that knowledge.
I understand blockchains and their use cases by categorizing elements of their technology. This allows faster understanding and decreases ‘time to productivity’. Stellar falls into the category of blockchains where accounts don’t exist but need to be created. This increases the complexity of integration for application developers.
Stellar’s goals are ambitious and it should be fun watching them grow. That being said, let’s get into how it was integrated into the faucet.
Why this Blockchain?
We love blockchains and follow developer adoption trends. So when we noticed Stellar gaining traction in the dev community, we knew we had to investigate it further.
The stellar documentation was alright. It was definitely well thought out however, the way they wrote code to me seemed disorganized. I was able to cut the code down by significant amount of lines by using async await over promises.
Sending a Transaction
Sending a transaction got a little challenging based on our use case. Pretty much I have to check if the account exists first and if it does then send a transaction and if not then I have to create an account.
